Caring For Our Environment
I recently visited the New England Aquarium with my children, and was moved by their new exhibit called living links. It sparked me into realizing how fragile our earth is, and how crucial it is for us to make small changes in our lives to help protect it. One exhibit had black and white movies of people who have made a difference in our world: Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr. Underneath the video screen was a title that read "The power of one". There was also a story of a little girl visiting a beach where many starfish had gotten washed up and stranded. The little girl began to pick them up and throw them back in the ocean. Her mother said, "Don't bother honey. It won't make a difference." The little girl looked down at the one she had in her hand and replied, " It will, with this one." She then threw it back in the ocean. We, as parents, have an important role to play in teaching our children about an awareness that is greater than ourselves. We can do this each day with small changes.
As many of you know, kiddinaround uses recycled boxes and newspapers to ship our products. Additionally, our Playtables are environmentally friendly because they last for years in a commercial setting rather than several toys breaking and ending up in a landfill. The toys we sell are high quality, and many are wooden. Thus they will last long enough to pass onto the next generation. We will continue to make changes in the way that we conduct business in order to do our part in helping this universal cause.
Recently, we have become affiliated with Tree Givers (http://www.treegivers.com/). This organization plants trees in honor of loved ones or in celebration of certain life events such as the birth of a new baby. There are several different gift package options for ordering a tree to be planted in honor of a new baby, including a framed certificate and a child's book entitled " The Legend of the Birthing Day Tree". You may also choose which state your child's tree will be planted in. What a wonderful idea for a new baby gift. This is a gift that will not only benefit our land and the air we breathe, but can also help teach our children about ways we can take care of our planet.
